Charitable Giving
There are multiple ways to provide financial support to charitable causes that benefit the public, association members and future land professionals. AAPL is associated with charitable organizations, such as the AAPL Educational Foundation, The Landman Scholarship Trust and NAPE Charities Fund. Each charitable organization has its own charitable mission. Consider making a donation today. The chart below provides additional information about types of financial gifts and other useful information.
Outright Gifts are donations of cash, securities or personal property. Tax benefits include income tax deductions for the value of the gift, plus no capital gains tax due on appreciated property. Other benefits include gift tailored to the immediate needs of the AAPL Educational Foundation.
Living Trusts are trusts established to take effect during a lifetime. Tax benefits include possible savings in estate taxes if the AAPL Educational Foundation is the beneficiary of the trust remainder. Other benefits include terms of the trust can be changed at anytime.
Bequests in a Will are gifts made by naming the AAPL Educational Foundation in a will. Tax benefits include estate tax deductions for the value of bequests to the AAPL Educational Foundation.
Life Insurance Gifts are gifts of an old or new policy with the AAPL Educational Foundation named as the beneficiary. Tax benefits include mmediate income tax deduction for the gift’s value, plus possible estate tax savings. Other benefits include a way to make a significant gift with little expenditure.
Retirement Plan Gifts are gifts made by naming the AAPL Educational Foundation as remainder beneficiary after your death. Tax benefits include avoiding income tax on the plan, in addition to possible estate tax deductions. Other benefits include the preservation of the plan’s value and allows you to leave heirs less costly bequests.
Real Estate Gifts are donations of real property, either in full or with a retained life estate. Tax benefits include immediate income tax deduction for the charitable value of the gift, plus no capital gains tax due. Other benefits include the opportunity to live in your home and still receive a charitable deduction.
Charitable Remainder Trusts are trusts that pays variable income to you or those you name before the AAPL Educational Foundation receives remainder. Tax benefits include income tax savings from deductions, no capital gains tax liability, possible estate tax savings. Other benefits include the opportunity for annual income that could increase if the trust value increases.
Charitable Lead Trusts are trusts that pays income to the AAPL Educational Foundation for a period of years before you or your heirs receive remainder. Tax benefits include gifts or estate tax savings for the value of payments made to the AAPL Educational Foundation. Other benefits include the opportunity to pass assets to heirs intact at a reduced cost.

AAPL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
The AAPL Educational Foundation. Inc. is a non-profit corporation chartered under the laws of the State of Texas. To the extent permissible under Section 50l(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. The mission of the corporation is (i) to support the American Association of Professional Landmen; (ii) to promote education, instruction and training for the members of the American Association of Professional Landmen to improve or develop their capabilities; (iii) to instruct the public on subjects useful to individuals and beneficial to the community; and (iv) to further the advancement of education. There are multiple ways to give to the AAPL Educational Foundation, Inc. and the table above outlines just a few examples by which you can make a difference to help further the continuing education needs of land professionals. There are many reasons for making a donation and the motivation of each donor is different, but the outcome is the same. Through charitable giving, our donors continue the legacy of generosity and caring that are hallmarks of our land community. THE LANDMAN SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

The Landman Scholarship Trust is a non-profit educational trust fund that provides academic scholarships for the benefit and assistance of deserving and qualified students who desire to obtain a degree or pursue a career in the field of petroleum or energy management. Since its founding in 1958, the trust has awarded more than 3,000 scholarships totaling over $2 million. The mission of the Landman Scholarship Trust remains devoted to AAPL’s heritage of helping to develop students with a strong understanding and appreciation for the free enterprise system and an attitude of professionalism and integrity.

NAPE CHARITIES
As the managing partner of NAPE, AAPL supports the NAPE Charities — various national charities that work with wounded and disabled veterans.
