Carbon Capture and Sequestration Panel
Carbon capture and sequestration (CCUS) provides tremendous opportunities and challenges for land professionals. CCUS projects will require extensive land rights from surface and, in some cases, mineral owners. These may include rights of way, injection easements, wellbore assignments, subordination agreements, access agreements, and geophysical acquisition permits in areas that could span tens of thousands of acres. The markets for these interests are just beginning to develop, raising issues with valuation. Additionally, many property owners may be uncomfortable or unfamiliar with carbon storage creating unique social acceptance challenges. These and other emerging issues will be discussed by experts in carbon storage who are leading commercial scale onshore CCUS projects in numerous geographic regions of the United States.
